Let's talk about the S.... word.

“Make your own Bible. Select and collect all the words and sentences that in all your readings have been to you like the blast of a trumpet.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Spoiler alert - it's not sex. Last time I had a coffee date with my best friend Anita I was going through a transitional period in my life, changing jobs, part owning a start-up business and moving fully and officially this time to Barcelona to live with my boyfriend. I felt constantly restless, couldn't sleep and I was constantly nervous, a bit scared of big changes and unknown. On the other side, I felt excited to start a new chapter in my life.

The topic of our conversation was Spirituality. I feel like I am, and majority of people today are wrapped up in daily routine, struggles and in a way chase of money and even though we find time to work out to keep our physical self in shape and look pretty and we work on developing our mental skills and build our education again to be able to be more competitive on work market and earn more money, to build a better life, we often neglect our Spiritual Self.

“The resting place of the mind is the heart. The only thing the mind hears all day is clanging bells and noise and argument, and all it wants is quietude. The only place the mind will ever find peace is inside the silence of the heart. That's where you need to go.”

 Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

I truly believe that in order to have happy and fulfilled live, one need to take of their overall health: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Just like a muscle our spirit and mind need a workout.

Most of my friends are born in Catholic families and consider themselves a Catholics, but some also meditate to do their 'spiritual workout' and find their peace, wear different 'fashionable' spiritual accessories like kabbalah bracelets, fatima heart bracelets (I have one as well but wear it as a fashion accessory only)  or even go to see different feng shui experts or spiritual counsellors to help them find peace.

“I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It's just that the translations have gone wrong.”

John Lennon

Spirituality is often closely connected to a religion and rarely talked about (well unless it's currently in fashion). Even talking about religion can be a taboo these days, we are currently in 21ct. still experiencing wars in the name of the religion yet not many of us born Catholics or Muslim are even following our own basic religious principles.

Personally, even though I am born into a Catholic family and I do believe that there is something waiting for us after this physical life but primarily I try to follow a rule of basic human decency, intelligence and compassion ... that which differentness us from other animals and which will hopefully help us survive as a species which is “Don't do unto others what you don't want others to do unto you.”Confucius.

I stopped going to church a long time ago and frankly, I have no need to. Catholic church as a very rich institution, who doesn't need to pay taxes is comprised of a group of men living at the cost of their community on pedestal. They have long lost touch with the reality of people they preach to and the way of living in 21ct.

I 'workout' my spiritual self by trying to really live my religion every day with people I am surrounded with and try to look at the mirror at the end of each day and just kind of self evaluate a bit. Recently I started doing some breathing exercises during the day when I feel overwhelmed with stress from work but what really worked for me to stop feeling restless is to start and finish my day with being at least 15 min. 'completely offline' without my iPhone, iPad or laptop.

How do you workout your spiritual self ladies?
